Dean Qiongxiu, 66, said she discovered the reptile clinging to the wall of her bedroom withits talons in the middle of the night. "I woke up and heard a strange scratching sound. I turned on the light and saw this monster working its way along the wall using his claw," said Mrs Duan of Suining, southwest China.

Mrs Duan said she was so scared she grabbed a shoe and beat the snake to death before preserving its body in a bottle of alcohol.

The snake – 16 inches long and the thickness of a little finger – is now being studied at the Life Sciences Department at China's West Normal University in Nanchang. Snake expert Long Shuai said: "It is truly shocking but we won't know the cause until we've conducted an autopsy."

Man crushed to death looking for phone

A US man has reportedly been crushed to death by a machine that reduces waste volume, as he looked for his missing mobile phone.

Roger Mirro, from Palatine, Illinois, apparently died of multiple crushing injuries after being trapped inside the trash compactor.

His death was ruled an accident, the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

Mr Mirro's wife, whose name has not been not released, said she last spoke with him on the phone as she left for work, telling him she was going out with friends, police said.

When she returned more than four hours later, she could not find him.

Embattled lawmaker Chidi Lloyd remanded in police custody

21-Year Old Lateef Sulaiman Who Slept With A Mad Woman Charged To Court

Officials of the Lagos State Government have arrested a 21-year old man, Lateef Sulaiman, for allegedly scaling a 14-feet fence to gain entrance into the Lagos State Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Majidun area of Ikorodu, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, to have sex with a mad woman.

Sulaiman was said to have jumped into the female dormitory around 9.30 p.m. recently and had sex with a deranged woman before he was arrested and handed over to the taskforce at Alausa.

In his confessional statement at the taskforce headquarters, Sulaiman allegedly said he had had sex with a mad woman at the rehabilitation centre on five occasions before his arrest, saying that he knew where the female dormitory was because he had gone to the centre in the past to seek employment and had thoroughly studied the environment.
He was arraigned at the Special Offences Court, Alausa in Ikeja for his alleged offence. Sulaiman was slammed with a four-count charge.

The brutal killing of Delsu student, Ify Gabriel Nwainokpor & friend

On Sunday 21st July 2013, Ify Gabriel Nwainokpor and his friend Kasim were attacked and beaten to death by a mob at the Ajara area of Badagry on the ground that their faces looked strange in the neighborhood, this is according to the people who posted the video of their lynching on Youtube.

No plan to call off strike until... - ASUU •UNILORIN VC calls for truce

ACADEMIC Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said it has no plan to call of its current strike until the Federal Government implements in full, the agreement it entered into with the union in 2009.

Addressing the press in Anambra State, on Tuesday, the Nsukka zonal coordinator of the union, Dr Chidi Osuagwu, said the rumour doing the round that ASUU was planning to call off its strike this week was not correct.

“The union feels embarrassed by the rumours doing the round that the ongoing strike will be called off on Thursday (tomorrow). This is unacceptable to the union and its members. In the light of these, we wish to state that unless the 2009 ASUU/FG agreement is fully implemented, the strike will continue,” he said.

The ASUU zonal coordinator called on Nigerians to impress it on the government to implement the agreement for better Nigerian university education system.

Collect your certificates before Dec or face penalty - WAEC

THE West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), has threatened to impose penalties on candidates who failed to collect their certificates on or before December 31.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Mr Yusuf Ari, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

It stated that millions of certificates of candidates who sat for WAEC examinations since 1960 had long been signed but were not collected by candidates.

Footballer Christian Benítez dies at 27 after suffering heart attack

Former Birmingham City striker Christian Benítez died in hospital in Qatar today from complications leading to cardiac arrest at the age of 27. The striker from Ecuador died just weeks after a £10million move to Qatar side, El Jaish.

The Ecuadorian Football Federation said on their website that Benitez 'had severe stomach pain, was rushed to a hospital, where after a few hours suffered cardio respiratory arrest, which ended his life.'

Christian is survived by his wife, children and his father, former Ecuador international footballer Ermen Benítez. May his soul rest in peace..amen.

Award-Winning Music Video Director Jailed For 90 Years For Fathering Six Children With His Own Daughters

An award-winning music director found guilty of fathering children with his daughters will spend the rest of his life in jail.

Aswad Ayinde, 55, of Paterson, NJ, was sentenced to 50 years in prison Friday after being found guilty in the second of five expected trials in which he is accused of repeatedly raping his six daughters, resulting in six children being fathered. Mr. Ayinde was found guilty in his latest trial of having intercourse with his daughter when she was as young as eight-years-old. The second sentence adds to the 40 year sentence Mr Ayinde received in a 2011 trial for sexually assaulting a separate daughter.

Swiss Train Crash: 35 Passengers Injured

At least 35 passengers have been injured, five of them seriously, after two trains collided head-on just outside a station in western Switzerland.

Pictures of the scene showed the two trains still on the tracks with the cabs crumpled into each other. Broken glass lay on the floor of the carriages.

Public TV station SRF quoted state police spokesman Pierre-Olivier Gaudard as saying that one person had yet to be recovered from the wreckage.
