PHOTO: Tributes As Fatai Rolling Dollar Is Buried

The body of the highlife musician, Fatai Rolling Dollar, was laid to rest at about 10:45pm yesterday [Jun 13] in Ikorodu, Lagos State, according to Islamic injunction.

The ambulance bearing the body departed his residence at Agege to Ikorodu in a long motorcade, led by Ebony Pall-bearers, which meandered its way through a crowd of youths, singing praises of the octogenarian music star who died on Wednesday. Guarded by a team of police escorts, the body left the residence after a short Islamic service held in his honour, before moving to Ikorodu for the burial.

At Maya Junction, the motorcade was ushered in by some bikers in four motorcycles (each carrying three people) which led the way to the late musician’s house, an uncompleted bungalow on 4, Unity Street, Maya, Ikorodu. After being buried in front of his compound, several Muslim clerics, led by the Chief Imam of Akute Central Mosque, Chief Kamal Olanrewaju Yussuf, took turns to preach the sermon.

At his grave side, juju music maestro, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey, praised the deceased and urged Nigerian youths to emulate his peaceful ideology.

Obey said:

Baba Rolling Dollar was a very hardworking man, very peaceful and friendly, if the youths can emulate his peaceful ideology, it will be better for all.
He also prayed for his children and advised the family to make themselves “indivisible” in this trying moment.

Some of the personalities who attended the event include: Stella Monye, Y.K Ajao, and the chairman of Ifako Ijaiye LCDA, Oloruntoba Oke. Fatai Rolling Dollar, who died as a result of lung cancer, took ill during his last trip to the United States, where he was forced to cancel some shows that would have taken him to six American cities.

Senate President, David Mark described him as a jolly good fellow who did not only entertained but brought joy to Nigerian homes and families. He paid glowing tribute to Pa Fatai for his mastery, dexterity and sense of humour while plying his trade, even till his last days.

Veteran reggae musician, Ras Kimono, rather preferred to give thanks for all the achievements Fatai Rolling Dollar put under his belt before and after his phenomenal comeback.
